Austin Public Schools can hear you now.

Within two weeks, parents will be able to check their child’s grades, syllabus, daily schedule, homework and more on their cell phone.

“It’s not just quarterly grades, it’s their daily work,” said Corey Haugen, director of information and technology.

APS’s upcoming mobile application is based on the district’s Infinite Campus online system, which allows parents easy access to their child’s educational information, including attendance. The app will work on Apple phones and other iOS system cells at first, with an Android version in development.

More than 70 percent of parents use the Infinite Campus system at Ellis Middle School and Austin High School, and a majority of district parents use Infinite Campus. Haugen and other district officials hope to get all parents using the system in some way.

“It’s our effort … to create more and more opportunities for open lines of development,” Haugen said. “It’s really changing the face of education. Now (parents are) active participants in the educational process.”
