As the unseasonably warm weather winds down, it’s time to head inside for more entertainment. It’s okay. Go ahead. Hands-on art, music and theater abound this weekend and lead into next week.

  1. If you haven’t seen it yet, head down to Frank W. Bridges Theatre to see the longest running musical in the world, “The Fantasticks.” The production features a mixture of “Romeo and Juliet,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and other classics, but lends a little more upbeat tone. Three more showings are left, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15.
  2. Don’t forget about the kids. Early Childhood Family Education will host a fall festival on Saturday, and it’s not about pumpkins or dinners. It’s about learning, and a vehicle fair will be one of the main attractions with fire trucks, police cars and dump trucks that kids can explore. If that can’t hold their attention, perhaps a clown and a magician will suffice. The event runs from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. at the Community Learning Center.
  3. OK, there’s no denying it. Fall is actually about pumpkins and dinners. The Brownsdale Fire Department will host a fish fry fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brownsdale Elementary School. Adult tickets are $9, and children 12 and younger get in for $6.50.
  4. After eating an abusive amount of fish, meander over to the Brownsdale Roller Rink the same night and try to stay upright while working off some of those calories. The Roller Rink is having a roller-skating reunion from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
  5. Too much indoor activity for one weekend? Head over to the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center and hit the trails on Sunday night. While there, listen to Canadian folk singer and musician James Keelaghan. He starts his show at 7 p.m.

Don’t look too far past these events. There are plenty of other happenings in and around Austin this weekend, like breast cancer fundraisers, one Friday night at the Golden Tress Salon and one Saturday at the Albert Lea Armory. Other highlights include more entertainment with coloring and watercolor workshops, a Christian Rock Concert at the Paramount on Saturday, and yet another installment of the VFW comedy night at Austin VFW Post 91.
