Driver hospitalized after he fell asleep, hit tree

A Spring Valley man was taken to St. Marys Hospital early Thursday morning after reportedly falling asleep at the wheel and hitting a tree.

Todd Himle, 45, was driving east on Mower County Road 15 around 3:30 a.m. Thursday when he fell asleep, he told police.

According to Chief Deputy Mark May, Himle went off the end of the road and hit a tree where County Road 15 intersects with Mower County Road 8.

May said Himle was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester by the Grand Meadow ambulance.

The police report did not indicate if the vehicle was totaled.
