Austin City Council members are set to approve the proposed dog park location Monday evening.

The council unanimously supported the proposed location — the south end of the 500 block of Second Street SE — at a recent work session.

Along with voting on the proposed location, council representatives will consider offering free dog licensure at a S.P.A.R.K. (Start a Park for Austin’s Respectable K-9s) fundraiser Oct. 29.

S.P.A.R.K. is a group of area residents hoping to bring a dog park to Austin.

The group has indicated it plans to raise $25,000 to help cover costs of the park.

The City Council is also scheduled to approve Fire Chief Mickey Healey’s recommendation for two open commander posts at the Fire Department.

The meeting is 5:30 p.m. Monday in City Council Chambers, followed immediately by a work session, where council members are scheduled to continue budget discussions.
