The Minnesota National Guard’s 1135th Combat Support Company will soon deactivate its operation in Austin, undergo reorganization and then be stationed out of Arden Hills, Minn.

“That happens periodically in the Army,” said Capt. Randy Belben, public affairs officer with the Minnesota National Guard.

In place of the 1135th, a new company will form. The 224th Transportation Company will begin its operation out of the Austin Armory, where its primary role will be the transportation of soldiers and supplies.

Though the move means some local Austin soldiers will go to Arden Hills, it also means many more women’s roles will be available in Austin within the 224th, according to Belben. However, Belben and local National Guardsmen couldn’t comment on how many soldiers will be in either company or where they are from.

The National Guard will hold a ceremony for the departure of the 1135th and start up of the 224th at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Austin Armory.
