The Superlarks (4-8 overall, 2-4 SEC) won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-11.
GM junior Audra Durhman served the first six points of the third game, including two aces, and the Larks went on to lead by as much as 10-1 in a dominating close-out win.
“The last game was really nice. We finally got in sync and we finished it with authority,” GM junior setter Autumn Thorson, who had 20 assists and eight ace serves, said. “We’re definitely improving as a team and hopefully we keep getting better as the season goes along.”
The Larks started off with a 10-3 lead in the second game, but Schaeffer, which doesn’t have any juniors or seniors on its roster, climbed to within 21-20 after a kill by Christina Westberg.
The Larks responded when Amber Riedemann served an ace to make it 23-20 and that game ended with Schaeffer missing a serve.
The first game saw GM lead 17-10 after a seven-point serving run by Riedemann, who had two aces and a kill during the rally. The Larks hung on to win behind the hitting of Cortney Olson, who had 11 kills on the night.
While the win was routine, GM head coach Michael Keefe was pleased with how aggressive his servers were.
“I was really impressed with our serving,” Keefe said. “In practice, we were working on putting it in certain spots and we executed pretty well.”
GM stats: Autumn Thorsen, 20 assists, 8 aces; Cortney Olson, 11 kills; Stephanie Russell, 7 kills; Audra Durhman, 6
