The Grand Meadow football team couldn’t keep the momentum as it lost to Mabel/Canton (1-3 overall, 1-3 SEC) 20-14 in overtime on the road Friday.
M/C won the game in OT on an eight yard run by Gabe Lind, who had 126 rushing yards on second and goal. GM came up empty on its possession in OT.
The Superlarks (3-1 overall, 3-1 SEC) tied the game with under two minutes left when freshman Landon Jacobson, who ran for 75 yards, scored from two yards out on fourth and goal.
GM’s other touchdown came on a run by Perry Stejskal, who ran for 46 yards.
The Cougars took a 14-0 lead into halftime and GM ran just three offensive plays in the first quarter.
“They were more physical in the first half and our tackling was poor,” GM head coach Gary Sloan said. “We were fortunate to only be down 14-0.”
Starters Richard Bain and Brock Johnson missed the game with injuries for GM, which was ranked No. 10 in nine-man coming into the contest.
Both players are expected to be back in the lineup next week.
Trenton Bleifus ran for 57 yards for GM.
