The Lansing Post Office is throwing its hat in the breast cancer awareness ring with a pictorial cancellation.
From 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, the post office will host a special pictorial cancellation for stamps, called “the Race to Cure Breast Cancer,” at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing. Saturday, which is the last race of the season at Chateau, also marks the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A pictorial cancellation is a postmark applied by hand to commemorate a special event. Cancellations may be applied to any item that has First Class postage.
The Post Office also will be promoting its breast cancer stamps, with 11 cents for every 55-cent stamp donated to breast cancer research.
To request a pictorial cancellation by mail, affix a first class postage to a self-addressed envelope or postcard, using stamps issued before the date of cancellation. Place it in a larger envelope along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope for the return trip and send to: Race to Cure Station, Postmaster, P.O. Box 9998, Lansing, MN 55950. All requests should be postmarked by Nov. 7.
