Minn. State Fair attendance ranks 3rd biggest ever

The just-completed Minnesota State Fair has recorded the third-largest attendance in the fair’s history.

A record-setting crowd Sunday followed by a good turnout Monday pushed attendance for the 12-day fair to 1,769,872.

On Sunday, 229,943 people turned out for the Great Minnesota Get-Together, a record for the second Sunday of the fair. Another 154,532 people showed up for Monday’s closing day.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/ruKmSZ ) the 2011 total is about 20,000 fairgoers short of the record set in 2009, when 1,790,497 people turned out. This year’s attendance is just over 6,000 people short of the 2010 attendance total.
