Life-long local turns 100

Someone is reaching a milestone soon, and it will happen in Adams this weekend.

Ella Naatz, who was born near Dexter, lived in Brownsdale and has lived in Mower County her entire life, will tally one more year in the county when she turns 100 on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Ella was born to John and Louisa (Henning) Rubin on September 17, 1911, and has been a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brownsdale.

Over the years, Ella worked the switchboard at Dexter phone company, Brownsdale grocery store and voluteered at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She married August Naatz on Aug. 15, 1930. He worked for years at the creamery in Brownsdale.

When people think of her, they think about her sense of humor, her green thumb and her sharp-as-a-tack wit.

Ella’s family will hold a celebration for her from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Adams Assisted Living.

Among Ella’s family includes six brothers, Oscar, John, Charlie, George, Pete and Ernie; children, Darlene (Lowell) Bjoraker, Winona, Minn., Tom (Monica) Naatz, Huntsville, Ala.’

five grandchildren, Dan Bjoraker, Mike Bjoraker, Kay Wiegert, Tory and Eric Naatz; six great-randchildren, Betsi, Katie, Ben, Alicia, Jordan and Griffin.
