The Riverland men’s soccer team won its seventh straight game as it topped Crossroads College 6-3 in Rochester Tuesday.
Crossroads scored the first goal of the match, but Pedro Herrera tied it up with a goal a few minutes later. Crossroads scored on another free kick to take a 2-1 lead.
“”Before the game I knew it was going to be fast and high scoring game because we have very talented players with fast wingers and we also knew that Crossroads brought the best players from the Rochester area,” RCC head coach Soner Dogan said. “I told my players that we needed to play our game we cannot put our heads down. No matter what the score is, we need to play our game.”
RCC (7-0 overall) responded to the early hole by putting up three straight goals as Anderson Siqueira put in a header on a pass from Valentin Manzano and Rafael Bellon scored two goals – one on an assist from Herrera and another on an assist from Dante Ortiz.
Bellon returned from a two-game rest after suffering a hamstring injury.
“I am happy to see Rafael score again,” Dogan said. “I told him to play at 50 or 60 percent because he is still not recovered from his injury. I know how lethal he could be with his shots even if he is not playing at 100 percent.”
Crossroads pulled to within 4-3 after scoring on another free kick in the second half, and Herrera responded with his second goal of the day on an assist from Bellon. Corey Anderson added RCC’s final goal on an assist from Joe Montes.
RCC out-shot Crossroads 26-12.
