A heat index of 115 degrees wasn’t enough to melt the Austin Public Education Foundation’s 14th annual APE for Kids Golf Event on Monday, July 18, at the Austin Country Club. Twenty-three teams and several volunteers braved the heat to raise funds for the Foundation, drinking 18 cases of water and using over 250 pounds of ice to stay cool on the course.
The Foundation’s mission is to help fund Austin public school programs and projects that are not paid for with tax dollars.
The Foundation’s James and Joanne Huntting Endowment funds any school project or program. Its Packer Fund endowment helps pay for co-curricular and extracurricular activities. APEF also gets funds from private and corporate donations and various fundraisers throughout the year.
