Paramount gets Celtic Wednesday

Austin’s getting more worldly these days.
That’s what happens when the Paul McKenna Band, one of the premier Celtic music groups touring, sets their sights on Austin. Paul McKenna and crew will hit the Paramount Theatre Wednesday.
“They’re a little newer, but they do play the traditional Celtic stuff,” said Scott Anderson, the Paramount’s operations manager.
The band has been compared to the Boys in the Loch, the current benchmark in Celtic music, who also played at the Paramount eight years ago.
The Paul McKenna Band is the second in a trilogy of Paramount dates from the Rochester Civic Center that features world music groups and brings a multicultural sound to Austin. The first group, Los Texmaniacs, sent two members to Austin last Wednesday, to much fanfare.
“They were just wonderful,” Anderson said. “All three bands are just incredibly good.”
The Paul McKenna Band will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Paramount. The show is free, and a question and answer session will follow the band’s set.
