The Austin Area Arts Center is about to get loud and proud.

The AAAC’s latest exhibit, “Bold, Bodacious and Brave,” starts Wednesday, Aug. 3 and runs through Aug. 28. The show, a collaboration between AAAC members Bonnie Lee, James Murphy and Barb Cafourek, promises vibrant art.

“People have indicated that we’re kind of brassy, and we decided to play off of that,” Lee said.

The idea stemmed from Cafourek and Lee wanting to do a show together and playing off of the b’s in their names. Things changed, of course, when Murphy jumped in the mix.

“Jim kind of jumped in there and we thought, ‘this is a brave soul to jump in with these two women,’” Cafourek said.

Each artist brings signature works to the show. Cafourek is represented through her copper jewelry, pottery, acrylic and watercolor works. Lee shows her strong side through her watercolor, acrylic and mixed media works.

“I’m very aggressive with the intensity of color and shadowing,” Lee said.

Murphy rounds out the collection through his work of digital art, landscape and seascape designs.

The exhibit runs Aug. 3-28, with a reception from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.

The arts center is the new place to go for artist-grade art supplies. The AAAC stocks, watercolor tubes, pads of watercolor paper, brushes, inks, palettes, drawing paper and more since last month. The arts center is also willing to special order art supplies for local artists.

“As far as good quality artist grade, you used to have to go to Rochester,” Cafourek said.
