An Austin woman was arrested for a probation violation Saturday night after allegedly hitting a 17-month-old boy with her car and leaving the scene.

Tiffany Ariel Hatfield, 25, is in the Mower County jail on a 72-hour hold after police arrested her around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hatfield reportedly struck the child near 11th Ave. NW and Seventh St. NW. A witness told police she hit the child, knocked him down and kept driving. The witness followed her and eventually got the license plate number on the 2001 Nissan Maxima she was driving.

The toddler suffered scratches on his foot and face. Sheriff Terese Amazi said he had wandered into the road during a family gathering.

Hatfield denied hitting the child when officers questioned her.
