While the state government shutdown could affect some doctors and nurses who haven’t renewed their licenses, physicians at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin are not among them.
Amy Bawek, Communications Coordinator for the facility, said they have been preparing for a shutdown and planned ahead. Bawek said all providers and nursing staffers with expiring licenses were notified to file with their respective boards and did so.
“The Minnesota state government shutdown will not impact our ability to serve our patients,” Bawek wrote in an e-mail. “Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin is committed to meeting the needs of our patients and will continue to do so during the shutdown.”
Bawek added hospital officials are keeping an eye on the capitol.
“(We are) closely monitoring the budget process and will do what we can to protect the interests not only of our patients, but of all patients across the State of Minnesota,” she said.
