The Hayfield Heat stranded 12 runners on base as they were blanked 5-0 at Winona in the Twin Rivers League Title game in Winona Saturday.
“We had plenty of chances all game, but we could not come up with the timely hit,” Heat manager Kasey Krekling said.
The Heat (13-10 overall) will now enter Region 5C tournament as the No. 2 seed and they will open play against the Owatonna Aces this Saturday in Austin.
Weston Hanson allowed just four hits and three walks and struck out nine in seven innings for Hayfield, but the Heat committed two costly errors in the fourth inning that allowed four runs to score.
Hayfield was able to draft one player for the region tournament and it selected Kasson’s Lucas Unger, a left-handed pitcher.
