The city may be expanding the Wastewater Treatment Plant sooner than planned.
City Engineer Jon Erichson told City Council members Tuesday night the plant has come uncomfortably close to exceeding its storage capacity in recent months. The city’s plan to add two one-million gallon biosolid storage tanks in 2015 and two nitrification cells in 2014 may need to be expedited to avoid going over storage capacity, Erichson said.
Council members will decide at the next City Council meeting whether to complete a $40,000 feasibility report to determine the most cost effective way of expanding.
Erichson presented a few options, including building expansions, thickening the sludge to decrease the number of gallons, or treating the sludge with chemicals. The feasibility report, if approved by the council, will outline the long-term financial impact of each option.
