Vocal group to perform at Paramount

Local residents seeking a little harmony would do well to stop by the Paramount Theatre this Thursday.
There’s much more to Home Free, the lauded vocal group than harmonizing however.
“It’s not just a concert. We have a show,” said Matt Atwood, one of the members of Home Free. “We really like to make people laugh.”
Home Free was destined to be the last show of the Paramount’s season after a Paramount board member saw the vocal group in concert.
“They said ‘Gee, we really need to have them come,’” Scott Anderson, the Paramount’s manager said.
Home Free has a reputation for a lively show, which usually runs about an hour and a half. They perform an “eclectic” variety of songs according to Atwood, whether it’s pop, country or something else. Yet it’s their humorous asides that capture the audience’s attention.
“They throw in a lot of humor with their wonderful a capella singing and so they have a lot of fun onstage,” Anderson said.
The group is getting a lot of recent attention. One of their Youtube videos, a cover of Hanson’s 2010 single “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” blew up when the group posted it Friday. Zac Hanson plugged the song on the Hanson blog, which means thousands of views in a short time. Home Free’s cover was even shown during a Japanese TV program this weekend.
“It’s awesome,” Atwood said. “It’s very humbling, too. It’s something we just, you know, set a camera up and sang.”
Home Free hopes to use that popularity on NBC’s show “The Sing-Off,” as group is currently talking with producers and could come on the show, according to Atwood. They’ll also be busy performing on a Royal Caribbean cruise at the end of the month.
While things are looking up for the group, they’re excited to perform here as several members are from Minnesota, Atwood included.
“We’re really looking forward to it because it’s close to home,” he said.
Home Free will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Paramount Theatre. Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for students and are available at the Paramount Box Office.
