The summer has begun with a sizzle, and starting Saturday Austin residents can cool off at the Austin Municipal Pool.

Park and Recreation Director Kim Underwood said the pool will open for the season at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Park and Recreation has added new amenities to the pool since last year, too.

“We have a new splash pad,” Underwood said. “We have a new handicapped lift on the deck of the pool so someone can get into the water.”

Thanks to Statewide Health Improvement Plan funding, four free Sunday swim nights will be offered on June 26 and July 10, 17 and 24. Free swim is open from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on those nights, Underwood said.

From noon to 1 p.m. on weekdays, a lap swim is available. Underwood said lap swims are $2 unless swimmers have a season tag.
