A 27-year-old Blooming Prairie man is in critical condition after falling off a ladder while painting a home in Albert Lea.
Derek Johnson reportedly fell 20 feet when his ladder buckled around 8:15 a.m. Monday. He was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester after the fall, according to a family member.
Although nothing is confirmed, there are several posts on Johnson’s family members’ Facebook walls expressing condolences for the loss. According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was working at 72408 Grey Fawn Drive in Indian Hills. He is employed through a painting contractor. Johnson was unconscious after the fall and there was a lot of blood at the scene, according to dispatch.
Authorities plan to release more information Tuesday. The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Albert Lea Township Fire Department and the Mayo Clinic Health System ambulance service assisted at the scene. Look for more information as it becomes available at AustinDailyHerald.com.
