An Austin man who kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach and choked her on two separate occasions was sentenced to two years probation Friday in Mower County court.
Tyler James McAnally, 21, was convicted of third-degree assault and domestic assault by strangulation. Both charges are gross misdemeanors.
The first incident, in which McAnally was convicted of third-degree assault, happened on July 25, 2010, before the woman was pregnant. According to a court complaint, McAnally and the woman began arguing and he pushed her to the floor. The woman told police he started choking her and she told him he was going to kill her. He apparently replied, “Good. I hope I do.”
The woman lost consciousness at least twice during the incident — once from the choking and once when McAnally punched her on the right side of the forehead.
Several months later, in January, McAnally and the woman got into another physical argument in which he choked her, hit her in the face, punched her in the back of the head, kicked her in the stomach and pushed her to the ground and covered her nose and mouth with his hands. The woman was three months pregnant at the time, according to a court complaint.
The woman was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and a doctor classified her injuries as “bodily harm,” according to court documents.
McAnally must also serve 100 community work service hours as part of his sentence.
