Fire department to flush hydrants

The Austin Fire Department will begin flushing hydrants in the northwest quadrant of Austin starting Monday, June 13.
Flushing the hydrants in this part of town should take about one month.
Commander Brian Lovik said there will be no road closures while this is happening. The only potential issue could be rusty or grimy laundry water.
“It disturbs the sediment in the mains, and sometimes people might get some washer loads full of this,” Lovik said. “If that does happen, people have to make sure they rewash it or call the Austin Utilities or fire department.”
Lovik said he’s never had a problem with his laundry while hydrants are being flushed, but it is possible.
