El Parral’s liquor license suspended

El Parral has been suspended from selling alcohol for three days for violating its liquor license by serving alcohol on a Sunday.
The incident happened on Sunday, May 29, when El Parral’s owner, Custodio Serrano, had rented out the building for a private party. Because he does not have a Sunday liquor license, which would require food be served at the establishment, the party was in violation of his liquor license.
“I was renting it out to make a little bit more money,” Serrano said at Monday night’s City Council meeting. “I am now aware I cannot rent.”
Serrano said he didn’t realize he couldn’t serve alcohol at a Sunday private party.
City Council members chose to impose one penalty on Serrano — a $750 fine and three days of suspended liquor sales.
“I think he is of a clear understanding of what he did to violate the law,” Mayor Tom Stiehm said.
The three suspension days have yet to be scheduled.
