ST. PAUL — Lyle/Pacelli junior Maya Ebeling got to the podium and had one of her better shot put throws of the year at the Class ‘A’ state track and field meet in Hamline University Saturday.
Ebeling, who is a foreign exchange student from Germany, threw her second best distance of the season when she landed a throw of 37 feet, 3.75 inches on her sixth and last throw of the day to take eighth place.
“I’m satisfied with what I did. I probably could’ve done better, but maybe it was because I’m nervous. I’m happy with it,” Ebeling said. “I’d like to thank all the family and friends that came out to support me.”
Ebeling started with a throw of just 34-3 in the preliminaries, but every throw after that was longer and she increased her distance on every throw but one.
“At the beginning I was kind of nervous and then I got into it,” Ebeling said. “The atmosphere here is really different and its so amazing.”
Ebeling was glad to make it to the podium at the end of the day.
“It was a good feeling and I was really looking forward to get up there,” she said. “You know you did good (when you’re at the podium).”
Rebecca Osterdyk of Mora took first in the shot put with a distance of 43-2.
Hayfield junior Hunter Anderson wasn’t able to reach the finals in Class ‘A’ discus competition, although he entered as the top-seed.
Anderson, who finished 15th, had throws of 123-7, 132-8 and a scratch and the lowest finals qualifying distance was 143-10.
Brain Blasley of Ada/Borup won the shot put with a 154-7.
