The Austin Post 91 baseball team opened the Legion season with a split against the Rochester Redhawks, who have players from Mayo, on the road Saturday.

Austin (1-1) won the opener 5-3 behind the arm of Jordan Lysne and they lost the nightcap 7-6 when the Redhawks scored three runs in the seventh.

Lysne, who retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced, allowed just one earned run in seven innings in the opening win and it was his first career start. He allowed just three hits and scattered eight walks.

“Jordan finished the game strong and we played some good defense to stop some Redhawk rallies,” Post 91 head coach Bob Stratton said.

Adam McMasters reached base all four times for Austin as he knocked in a run, Mike Tindal had a single a double and an RBI, and Marcus Stoulil, Aaron Goetz and Joe Raso all knocked in runs in the win.

Austin scored all six of its runs in the second inning in the loss to the Redhawks and Steve Serratore didn’t allow a run in the last five innings to pick up the win for Rochester.

Preston Higbe took the loss as he went six and two-thirds innings, while allowing eight hits and five walks.

McMasters, Goetz and Zach Huntley had two hits and an RBI, while Tindal, Caleb Whalen, and Nate Paris all knocked in runs.
