Austin police got a surprise when they responded to an emergency distress call that came over the radio Wednesday night — it was a fake emergency.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said a group of people were hanging out at 802 Eighth Ave. SW when police arrived. The residents of the home were watching TV and didn’t seem to know why the police had shown up, Krueger said.

After the police said they received a distress call over the radio from the residence, one of the women said her sister works for the Adams ambulance and her radio was in the house.

Later, police questioned Nathan Williamson, 20, who had been at the house when the call was made. He admitted to using the radio and said he spoke into it, listing the address and saying there was an emergency.

Krueger said the police report and radio log have been forwarded to the County Attorney for potential charges.
