Pacelli to induct new hall of fame members June 17

Pacelli High School will induct eight individuals to its Hall of Fame at a dinner hosted by the Pacelli Booster Club on Pacelli Golf Day June 17.

Dick Cotter, Gene Leif, Patty Lundberg, Conrad Ray, Larry Scheid, Father John Tighe and Jerry Wolesky will all be honored.

Cotter, who graduated in 1946 was on the football team that was Minnesota Catholic Conference co-champs in 1946 and he played at the University of Notre Dame as a captain on a full-ride scholarship.

Cotter is deceased.

Gene Leif

Leif who graduated in 1949, played football, basketball and baseball at Pacelli and at Loras College in Iowa.

He was a four-year starter for the Pacelli football team, while earning all-conference honors twice and being named all-state honorable mention in 1949.

He started for three years on the Pacelli basketball team, where he was all-conference all three years and he made the all-tournament team at the state tournament in 1949.

Leif was a four-year starter for the baseball team, where he hit .480 as a junior. He also played in the state qualifying 1949 team.

Leif was registered as a MSHSL official for baseball, football and basketball for 30 years.

Patty Lundberg

Lundberg, who graduated in 1981, competed in basketball and tennis at Pacelli and Austin Community College.

She was a four-time all-conference choice in basketball and she played on three state qualifying teams — including the 1981 squad that took second.

In tennis, Lundberg qualified for the state tournament as part of a doubles team in 1980.

At ACC, she was a two-time selection to the All-Region team.

Therese Parlin

Parlin, who graduated in 1974, won a state title in the low hurdles for the Pacelli track and field team in 1974. She also was a member of the state champion 440 and 880 relay teams.

She started at point guard for the Pacelli girls basketball team from 1972-1973 and she was a member of the first Pacelli girls cross country team in 1973.

Parlin is a member of the Riverland Community College Hall of Fame.

Conrad Ray

Ray, who graduated in 1993, was a two-time state qualifier for golf in 1992 and 1993 — where he was named all-state and took sixth place at state.

Ray went on to play golf at Stanford for four years and he was a member of the 1994 National Championship team. He is in his seventh year as head golf coach at Stanford and he was named NCAA coach of the year after leading Stanford to a national title in 2007.

Ray was also a three-year starter on the Austin/Austin Pacelli football team and he was a member of the Austin/Austin Pacelli hockey team that went to state in 1993.

Larry Scheid

Scheid, who graduated in 1959, was a starter on the 1958 state championship basketball team, where he made the all-tournament team.

He also was a four-year letterman for the baseball team.

He went on to be a two-year starter for the Austin Community College baseball team before starting for two years at Mankato State. Scheid also played shortstop in the Southern Minnesota Baseball League.

Father John Tighe

Tighe was the principal of Pacelli High School from 1959 to 1970. He was ordained by Bishop Fitzgerald in 1956 and assigned to Queen of Angels Parish and Pacelli in 1959.

He died in 1995.

Jerry Wolesky

Wolesky coached at Pacelli from 1972-1983. He led the football team, which he coached from 1974-1983, to three conference championships and a class ‘B’ runner up finish at the state tournament in 1980.

He coached the boys golf team from 1972 to 1978 and had a career record of 108-9. The boys golf team took third place at the Class ‘A’ state meet in 1978.

He started the Pacelli girls golf team in 1975 and coached them until 1978.
