Letter to the Editor
Troy Nelson, Austin letter carrier volunteer
Last November the Letter Carriers in Austin conducted their annual pre-Thanksgiving food drive.
Employees from the Austin Post Office along with students from the Austin High School National Honor Society, the Austin Jaycees, the radiology class from Riverland and residents from Gerard helped collect nonperishable food items in the city of Austin. All items were taken to the Salvation Army. Coming up on May 14, our annual National Food Drive will take place and we are inviting the residents of Austin to donate their nonperishable items. We are happy to report that the groups names above will be assisting us in the collection of the items. We ask that if you wish to donate, please place your items in a plastic bag and place by your mailbox by 9 a.m. on May 14. Our volunteers start canvassing the city and picking up those items. If you wish to set your donations out on Friday or even the following Monday that’s okay also. Your letter carrier will deliver a gray plastic bag courtesy of Hy-Vee and a postcard as a reminder next week. Donations can also be dropped off at the east parking lot loading dock at the Austin Post office. For more information, please contact Bob Rosel at 507-261-6040 or visit our website at www.nalcbranch717.org and click the ‘Food Drive’ link.
