A Lyle man is counting his lucky stars today after a fire in his home Monday only managed to melt a television.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said Arnold Arkells, 51, was in his Lyle home at the 300 block of Pine St. when he smelled smoke coming from the second floor.

The Lyle Fire Department and Mower County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene around 7:50 p.m. The damage was contained to the upstairs sunroom, where a television had melted from the small blaze.

Amazi said the television was likely the cause of the fire.

Arkells, his daughter and his dog were uninjured. Arkells’ cat had not been located as of 10 p.m. Monday night.
