David Lynn Barber, 72, of Lansing, died at his home Thursday evening, May 19, 2011, surrounded by his family.
He was born August 31, 1938, to Vern and Esther (Booen) Barber in Lyle, Minn. He married Nyla Elam on July 27, 1958, in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Charles City, Iowa, Two Harbors and Blooming Prairie before moving to Lansing. An over the road truck driver, David belonged to the Eagles of Austin and enjoyed fishing, camping, stock car races, his dogs, gardening, spending time with his family and riding on his pontoon.
Survivors include his wife, Nyla; children, Cindy (Doug) Ferguson of Winona, Wayne (Sarah) Barber of New Richland, Carl Barber of Blooming Prairie, Gene (Becky) Barber of Waseca, Dona Nelson of Two Harbors, Nancy (Brian ) Riggleman of Owatonna and Nikki (Paul) Becker of Byron; 18 grandchildren, Joshua, Michelle, Tyler, Carter, Brady, Jason, Melissa, Trevor, Jessica, Kristin (Brian), Raylee, Heather, Kiyah, Tori, Kira, Perrin, Abby, Akaysha; seven great-grandchildren, Tayven, Jeviah, Alexis, Keira, Tatyana, Isaiah and Landon; sisters, Laura Rayman of Blooming Prairie, Shirley Giles of Albert Lea, E. Mae Schneider of Blooming Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Esther Barber; siblings, Carol Oakland, Jim Barber, Phyllis Jester, Lloyd Barber and Ethel Hoffman and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dave Hammond officiating. Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Stateline Cemetery in Worth County, Iowa.
