Families of deployed servicemen could receive help from a state program known as the Yellow Ribbon Program if it is implemented in Austin.
City officials are set to meet at City Hall Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. to discuss the potential for bringing the program to town.
Sgt. Tom Eustice of Janesville spoke to City Council members about the initiative in February, saying the program “helps deployed servicemen’s families get what they need.”
Eustice said he wants the City Council to serve as a resource as he works with military families in Austin.
“What we’re about is helping deployed servicemen’s families when they are in need,” he said at the February meeting. “The need can be helping plow their driveways or helping someone when they’re in a crisis.”
Yellow Ribbon is a National Guard program run by the State of Minnesota.
Ward 3 council member Marian Clennon said the program is a good way for military families who don’t live on a base to still have the assistance they need while their family members are deployed.
Clennon said the meeting Tuesday is mostly informational.
