Get ready to laugh your brains out.

Austin High School will present “The Craving” Friday and Saturday at Christgau Hall. This is no ordinary spring play, however.

“The Craving” is about screenwriter Terry Kyle Morris’s attempts to market his first screenplay, a heartwarming tale of love and longing. His troubles grow when Hollywood producers buy the rights and turn the story into a zombie slasher flick.

“It’s short and it’s funny,” said Kate Schoonover, AHS biology teacher and first-time director. “The Craving” is Schoonover’s directorial debut for AHS as well as the first play she’s led. She didn’t pick the piece for her students, however. They chose the piece from three scripts she provided.

“When we read the script we had to stop and laugh,” said Megan Poczos, AHS freshman.

The play, consisting of 15 actors and a stage crew of five hands, has been in production since the end of February, meaning there’s been plenty of time to rehearse and build sets.

“It’s hard to keep a straight face,” said Alana Bissinger, AHS sophomore. “It is very quirky. It’s probably the most quirky thing I’ve ever seen or been in.”

“The Craving” is set for May 20 and 21 at Christgau Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children and free for students with student ID.
