The fifth Clean Up Austin felt a lot like years past — rainy and wet.

Despite cold, rainy weather, organizers said more than 200 volunteers gave up their Saturday to pick up garbage and debris at Austin parks.

Organizers and volunteers were prepared for the less-than-perfect climate.

“It’s been windy. It snowed one year,” said Steve King, a city councilman and member of the Clean Up Austin Committee. “It’s always been crappy weather, but we’ll pick up crap in crappy weather.”

Still, King said the efforts seem to be making a difference.

“Every year, we’re seemingly finding less and less litter to pick up, which is what it should be like,” King said. “We shouldn’t find more.”
