The Austin boys golf team took third place at the seven-team Ballard Invite in Iowa with a team score of 333 Saturday.

The Packers were led by Alex Thorson, who took fifth overall with a 78 and Mark Thorson was 10th with an 82.

“Everyone struck the ball very well and we had some good opportunities in front of us that could have put us close to a second place finish,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “The boys were happy with their play, but we still have a couple of things as a team that need tightening.”

Owatonna, which was the only other team from Minnesota competing, took first.
