ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says testing for chronic wasting disease is finished and no deer were positive for the disease.
Officials tested 839 southeastern Minnesota deer that were yearlings or older. All were within a 10-mile radius of the location near Pine Island where a deer tested positive for the disease in November.
The DNR did not meet its goal of testing at least 900 adult deer.
Although 900 samples would’ve provided the best estimate of the disease’s prevalence, it wasn’t an all or nothing goal, the DNR’s Lou Cornicelli said in a March interview.
