Lyle hires principal as superintendent

The Lyle Public School board has appointed James Dusso, Lyle’s principal, to fill the vacant superintendent position through the next school year.
Dusso, appointed during a special session Wednesday night, will act as superintendent through June 2012, pending several actions. Dusso must obtain a temporary superintendent’s license and go through contract negotiations. Dusso has been Lyle’s principal for the past two years.
Former Lyle superintendent Jerry Reshetar’s resignation must also be formally accepted by the Lyle Public School Board. Reshetar announced his resignation two weeks ago due to “differing philosophies,” between himself and board members, according to both Reshetar and Dean Rohne, board chairman.
“We wanted to provide some direction to the staff in the interim,” Rohne said.
Reshetar’s departure comes almost a year after Lyle joined Grand Meadow and Glenville/Emmons Public Schools in a consortium to share resources, including Reshetar as superintendent. He had been Lyle superintendent for 12 years.
Neither Rohne nor Reshetar described their differences, but said both sides were amicable during the departure.
“When that occurs, it’s OK. It just signals that it’s time for new leaders,” Reshetar said. “(It’s) just differing ideas on what’s best for the school district.”
Rohne said Dusso’s contract should be worked out soon, as the new superintendent will have to take up new tasks like setting the district’s budget ahead of the June 30 state deadline. He’ll also be working with Reshetar and Southland/LeRoy/Ostrander superintendent Steve Sallee, as Lyle shares services with those districts.
“I think we’ll be fine,” Rohne said. “Actually, the summer months are the superintendents’ busiest months.”
