Jeanette “Becky” Christina Beckwith, 93, of Austin died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Our House Memory Care in Austin.
She was born June 22, 1917, in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Harry Garfield and Mabel Lena (Nelson) Beckwith. Becky came to the United States at 19 months of age to live with the Dutcher family because of the death of her mother. Becky worked at Montgomery Wards, Kretskys, Hormel and Wallace’s. She also spent time doing house work. Her hobbies included canning and sewing. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. One of her greatest loves was her “Teen Board” while working at Wallace’s and she also had a talent for window designing.
Becky was full of life and loved people and pets. She was always there to lend a hand or listening ear.
Becky is survived by nieces; nephews; the Dutcher family and special friends Gayler and Ethel Jensen, Gwen and Greg Jorgenson and their children, Jill and Kyrie, Murray and Mim Jensen and their children, Carter and Lyndon.
She was preceded by her parents, Harry and Mabel Beckwith; brothers, Henry and Charlie Beckwith.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Patricia M. Toschak and Rev. David Dutcher officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may greet the family for one hour before the service at the church. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
