County jail prepares for first women inmates

The Mower County jail’s first two women inmates will transfer in from Steele County on Friday, Sheriff Terese Amazi said.

A union grievance had delayed opening the women’s section.

Mower County may also begin housing women and special needs inmates from other counties. About a dozen counties in southeast Minnesota are looking into grouping their jail populations to save money.
