A LeRoy business’ hog barn was burned to the ground sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The barn, which was located at 15704 750th Ave. in rural LeRoy, contained no pigs at the time of the blaze, according to Sheriff Terese Amazi. There were over 1,200 animal units in the building.
The caretaker of the barn, Richard Vandeweerd, reported the fire at 7:50 a.m. Thursday morning when he woke up and found the barn burned down. Next Generation Pork owns the barn.
Amazi said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but it does not appear suspicious. She was unable to provide a dollar value on the loss.
