The Riverland baseball team swept Central Lakes (0-21 overall) by scores of 19-0 and 5-2 in Brainerd Monday.

The Blue Devils (18-9 overall) racked up 15 hits in the first game, but had just nine hits in the second game.

“We did what we needed to do in the first game,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “We didn’t adjust well to a slower pitcher in the second game.”

Kyle Young, a sophomore from Forest Lake, Minn., ripped two homers in the sweep as he had one deep ball in each game.

“Kyle’s starting to come around and he’s swinging the bat real well,” Koenigs said.

Riverland had two players, Brad Winkelman and Braden Hunkins, named southern divison players of the week last week.

Winkelman, a sophomore from Rapid City, S.D., pitched a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts and one walk in a win over Western Wisconsin Tech.

Hunkins, a freshman from Almond, Wis., batted .867 in the sweep of WWT and he also had a home run and four RBIs.
