The Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Minnesota presented a check for more than $17,000 to support cancer research at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota-Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Rebecca Morris, a professor who leads the Stem Cells and Cancer section that specializes in skin cancer research at The Hormel Institute, gave a presentation about her work to auxiliary members during the conference at which the check was presented.
The group’s donations were raised by all Minnesota VFW Ladies Auxiliary organizations conducting fundraisers for cancer research.
Esther Young, an Austin native who lives in Lake City, served as the chairperson for the organization’s Minnesota Cancer Aid & Research Committee. Young said everyone needs to help find a cure for cancer.
Every dollar from the donation will go directly to The Hormel Institute’s research focused on nontoxic ways to prevent, control or cure cancer.
