After a three year study about land conservation and farming, Lansing Shepard and Paula Westmoreland are ready to share their findings with area farmers.

The Sustainable Farming Association holds its annual meeting March 12 in Clarks Grove and welcomes the two researchers.

Lansing has a background in writing and conservation, and Westmoreland is trained in permaculture — a farm design based on natural processes.

The public is welcome at 9 a.m. to listen to the findings. Together, the two researchers will present their findings from projects in the Blue Earth River basin, which were compiled into a recently published book: “This Perennial Land.”

The program also includes a presentation by Michael Cotter, who is known for storytelling about rural life. He will present some selections from stories he has developed based on the many years he spent on his family’s farm near Austin.

The meeting will end with two sessions running at the same time. One of the sessions details government conservation programs led by area conservationist, Jim Jirik. Jill Louters and a panel of South Central members will lead the other session on marketing locally grown foods.

Lunch is available for $5. For information call 507 256-4876.
