The Austin Bruins closed out their inaugural season with a 4-1 win at Coulee Region Sunday after falling to Aberdeen 5-3 on the road Saturday.
On Sunday, the Bruins (23-31-4 overall) took over early against first place Coulee Region (35-20-5 overall). Jordan Greenberg and Sam Olson scored first period goals and goalie Keegan Asmundson took over from that point as he stopped 37 of the 38 shots he saw. He stopped all 27 shots he saw in the first two periods.
It was the last junior hockey game for Asmundson, along with Bruins captain Sam Olson and Mike Adamowicz as all three players will have aged out by next season.
In Saturday’s loss to Aberdeen (20-34-4 overall), the Wings scored twice in the third period as they held Austin to seven shots in that frame.
AJ Underwood stopped 32 of 37 shots for Austin in the loss.
Austin finishes the season in fifth place out of six teams in the NAHL’s Central Division.
