The Riverland baseball team got its bats going in a 9-2 win over the Ontario Terriers in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (4-2 overall) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead and they never looked back.
Sophomore Renee Araujo had four hits, including a double and a triple and Kyle Young, a sophomore from Forest Lake, Minn., came up with his sixth extra base hit over the road trip when he slapped a double.
“Kyle’s smashing every thing he hits,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “He’d have five definite homeruns this week if it weren’t for the new bats.”
Adam Carroll, a freshman from Rapid City, S.D. picked up the win on the mound as he allowed just five hits, three walks and one earned run in nine innings, while striking out four.
“He doesn’t overpower anybody, but he throws strikes and lets the defense make plays,” Koenigs said.
Koenigs said that Ontario has 10 players who have signed on with Division I, II or NAIA schools for next season.
“We played our best no question and we finally got our bats going,” Koenigs said.
