Austin School Board shifts times

Austin Public School Board members, district staff and even local media can tuck their kids into bed, eat dinner at a reasonable hour and get more sleep on the second Monday of the month.
Board members voted to move their monthly meetings from 6:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. starting with the upcoming March board meeting. Meetings will still be conducted on the second Monday of each month at the City Council Chambers at the Austin Utilities building and may still be broadcast live.
The biggest reason for the change, according to Board Chair Aaron Keenan, was time conflicts for district staff and members. However, Keenan personally liked it because he could tuck his kids in on board meeting nights.
Residents can still sign up to be delegations and can work out a time with the board to appear during meetings, Keenan said.
