An Austin man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for his role in two stabbings last July.
Ghavin Darrell Marryshaw, 24, was convicted in two separate cases Thursday in Mower County Court — both convictions were for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. A first-degree assault charge in one of the incidents was dropped when Marryshaw entered into a plea agreement.
One of the incidents for which Marryshaw was sentenced took place on July 11. Marryshaw slashed a 27-year-old Austin man on both arms and stabbed him in the upper chest.
According to a criminal complaint, several witnesses saw Marryshaw and the man arguing outside Mickey’s Bar on Second Avenue Northeast at around 1 a.m. Marryshaw then allegedly began flailing at the man before dropping a knife and fleeing the scene.
On July 4, a similar scene reportedly unfolded in the Plaza Lot. A 19-year-old male told police he was outside with a group of people after bar close when another group walked up and started harassing them. An argument ensued, and the two groups began pushing and shoving, a criminal complaint states. The 19-year-old said he was in the middle of this when he felt a sharp prick in his left lower back and then again on his left wrist.
Marryshaw was sentenced to 33 months in prison for one of the charges, but that is set to run concurrent with the other sentence of 27 months. He will receive 241 days of credit for time served.
