Austin girls hockey team hands out awards

The Austin girls hockey team handed out its season awards at its banquet recently.
Junior forward Abby Gallaher made the All-Big Nine team, while sophomore forward Carley Grunewald and senior forward Ashely Arhart were honorable mention.
The team gave it’s Top Gun Award to Gallaher and Grunewald, who each had 36 points on the season; junior defenseman Vanessa Talamantes won the hardest worker award; Arhart won the leadership award; Gallaher was team MVP; senior Valorie Bates was most improved, and freshman defenseman Justina Talamantes and Gallaher won the plus-minus award.
Arhart won the Packers’ Hobey Baker Award and won the Minnesota High School Girls Hockey Coach’s Association individual academic award. Arhart and senior Alex Larson also won a Big Nine academic award.
The team selected Grunewald, Vanessa Talamnates and Gallaher as captians for next year.
Randy and Jane Arhart won the volunteer award for the Big Nine.
