Alumni Update: Kirby receives honors at Air Force

MEN’S HOCKEY
Austin grad and Air Force Academy defenseman Tim Kirby was named to the third team for the All-Atlantic Hockey Association recently.
Kirby ranked second on the team in points by a defenseman with 20 (7-15-22). In AHA regular-season games, he ranked third in the league in points by a defenseman with 19 (7-12-19). His 7 goals are tied for seventh on the team. He tied his season high with 2 assists against Sacred Heart March 11 as Air Force won game one of the AHA quarterfinal series.
The honor is the second of Kirby’s career as he was a first-team all-conference selection as a sophomore.
Air Force (20-12-6 overall), which was ranked No. 20, ended its season with a 2-1 overtime loss to Yale in the round of 16 in the East Regional. Yale, which was ranked No. 3, was the top seed in the East Region.
BASEBALL
Brian Voigt, a 2008 Southland grad and 2010 Riverland grad, is off to a hot start at Augustana College (9-8 overall) in Sioux Falls, Iowa. Voigt has started nine of 17 games and is hitting .406 with an on-base percentage of .547. He has 6 doubles, 1 homer and 7 RBIs.
On the mound, he is 0-1 with an ERA of 1.59, while striking out 7 in 5.2 innings.
Brendan McCabe, a 2008 Blooming Prairie grad, has started 18 of the first 26 games at catcher for Morningside College (14-12 overall) so far this season.
McCabe is hitting .304 and has an on-base percentage of .467, with 7 doubles and 4 RBIs.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Austin grad Kathryn Gavin is playing on the Minnesota State tennis team this year.
She is on the No. 1 doubles team with Sarah Madigan of Inver Grove Heights and they’re off to an 8-8 start for the Mavericks (9-7 overall).
As a singles player, Gavin is 8-6.
