Dean Honsey, 64, of Emmons, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his home, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Emmons Lutheran Church with the Revs. Julie Fiske and Dave Hernes officiating. Visitation will be held Friday at Emmons Lutheran Church fellowship hall from 5 to 8 p.m. and then again one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mansfield Township Cemetery.

Dean Philip Honsey was born on May 27, 1946, in Albert Lea, to Homer and Berdine (Opdahl) Honsey.

Dean graduated from Emmons High School with the class of 1964. On April 26, 1969, he was united in marriage to Joey Mattson at Mansfield Lutheran Church.

Dean was baptized and confirmed at Emmons Lutheran Church where he remained a life long member.

He was also a member of Ulstad AA Club and served on the advisory board at Fountain Lake Treatment Center. He was a volunteer at the treatment center and a frequent speaker for monthly meetings.

Dean retired from Winnebago Industries after 35 years, in July of 2010.

Dean was a lover of the outdoors, including hunting with the guys and his dogs. He loved to garden and take care of the yard. Many people were blessed by his message of “hope” through his love of woodworking. He loved the fair and helping young people with their projects as well as entering many of his own.

His greatest love of all was his family. He loved his grandkids and enjoyed everything about them.

Dean is survived by his wife, Joey (Mattson) Honsey, of Emmons; children: Jay (Lori) Honsey, of Minneapolis, and Jeff (Tracy) Honsey, of Medford; three grandchildren include: Michelle, Amanda, and Noah; mother, Berdine Honsey; brothers: Curtis (Betty) Honsey, Neal (Gayle) Honsey, Ross (Diane) Honsey, Howard (Connie) Honsey, Loren Honsey, Richard (Bobbi) Honsey and Dennis (Heidi) Honsey; sister, Judy (Tom) Cleveland; sisters-in-law: Cindy (Mark) Peterson and Lori Olinghouse; brothers-in-law: Randy (Bernice) Mattson and Kjell (Laura) Mattson; along with many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Honsey, and an infant sister.
